One week til primary: why voting matters

For many, election season is far from a huge entertainment spectacle. It doesn’t come with fireworks, halftime shows, or concert headliners. But make no mistake—this week’s Primary Election may be one of the most important events happening on Guam all year.

For many people, voting can feel like just another item on a busy to-do list. Yet every election serves as a reminder that the future of our island isn’t decided by someone else. It’s decided by us.

On Guam, the Primary Election is more than simply narrowing the field of candidates. It’s the first major opportunity for voters to shape who will ultimately compete for offices that directly affect everyday life—from the roads we drive on and the schools our children attend, to healthcare, public safety, housing, economic development, and the future opportunities available to the next generation.
